Our Family

Ben and Judy met at Messiah College in 1980. Two years later we were married at the college chapel. We lived in a mobile home in nearby Dillsburg, PA and worked in Harrisburg.

Our first child, Timothy, was born in Zaire in 1985 while we were serving there as volunteers. Tim became a follower of Jesus at age 6. He has always had a special love for nature and the outdoors. As a youngster he enjoyed catching lizards and bugs. Later, he had an aviary with many kinds of birds as well as a pet cockatiel. He has a special place in his heart for children and youth, and he played an important part in our ministry to young people. He is also very clever with computers and video, and along with his brother, he has produced some very entertaining video clips. Tim is quite musically inclined and has mastered the flute, with the ability to play many songs by ear. Tim attended Union University in Jackson, Tennessee. He was married in October 2007 to Christina Pool, whose parents had served as IMB missionaries in Honduras and Nicaragua. Tim graduated in May, 2008, and he and Christina moved to Harrisburg, PA. He is now an emergency room nurse at Hershey Medical Center .

Our second child, Joshua, was born in Maryland while we were serving as youth leaders there. Josh became a follower of Jesus shortly after Tim. As a young believer, one of his great accomplishments was developing a personal discipline called "Quest" which helped to stretch his faith. Josh is our analytical thinker who has a knack for figuring things out. He is very keen in math and science, and very advanced in his computer skills. Josh is currently studying engineering at Union University. He spent a semester in northeastern China on a study exchange, and has ambitions of perhaps returning to Asia some day to work. Josh plans to graduate in May 2009.

Our third child, Joy, was born in Vermont while we were planting the church there. Joy has been a follower of Jesus for many years now, and in recent years she has made dramatic growth. She loves people and has a heart of compassion for needy people and children. She also loves to draw and is very skilled in graphic arts. Joy was baptized at our family farm in Maryland in January 2007, and she continues to follow Jesus and to share her faith boldly with her many friends. She has been an employee of McDonald's for over 2 years and recently won an award for excellence. Joy is homeschooling 12th grade through Northstar Academy and achieving high marks. She has applied to three colleges and plans to attend in August 2009.
